question

How would you define benefits for a SW vendor to have a Saas offer?

It is actually obvious that the market is willing to have more and more Saas (or any "aas") solutions. What are the benefits for a software vendor, beyond competitions consideration? Is the competition the only reason to go for Saas, as a software vendor?

SaaS represents a steady stream of revenue, and the ability to make ongoing changes on a regular basis to the platform.

It also affords a vendor with the possibility of maintaining a single code-base in production (although that is sometimes more dream than reality).

SaaS potentially opens the door to many more customer types, as the startup costs for the customers is reduced.
